Sophomore forward Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) has been named Independent Women's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for her performance in Seattle U's 63-56 road victory at UW-Milwaukee on Feb 1.

"Kacie has been our most consistent player this season," said head coach Joan Bonvicini.  "She is a tremendous finisher and an outstanding rebounder at both ends of the court.  Her leadership and unselfishness has propelled our team each game."

Sowell led the Redhawks with 18 points and nine rebounds versus the Panthers, shooting 7-for-13 from the field.  She also shot 4-for-6 from behind the free throw line and co-led the team with three steals.

Sowell has started all 22 games for the Redhawks thus far in 2011-12 and leads the team in scoring (14.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg).  She also has 10 double-doubles so far this season.

This is Sowell's fourth such honor on the year, also receiving the honor on Nov. 28, Dec. 5, and Jan. 3.  As a team, this is the sixth time the women's basketball team has received the honor this season, as Talisa Rhea (Juneau, Alaska) also received the recognition on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.

Seattle University (13-9) heads to Portland on Thursday, Feb. 9 to take on the Portland State Vikings, beginning at 7 p.m.
