Thanks to the generosity of numerous people as well as an appearance by Cal Ripken Jr., the Seattle University Baseball "Meet the Redhawks" Dinner and Auction, held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center, was a major success.
The evening began with a reception and silent auction, followed by the dinner program and a live auction emceed by Tom Hutyler, the public address announcer for the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field as well as for many Seattle University women's basketball games. The program culminated with a talk by Ripken, who discussed values such as consistency and conviction.
Seattle U head baseball coach Donny Harrel introduced the players and staff of the 2012 squad to the 407 people in attendance. Dan Giuliani, the play-by-play voice of Seattle U baseball on GoSeattleU.com, lent his vocal talents throughout the evening as well. Between the silent auction, live auction, and other oppotunities to donate money, the Redhawk baseball program received a healthy contribution to help run its operations.
