The Seattle University women's tennis team ended their weekend on a strong note, sweeping Idaho State in an 8-0 blowout at Reed Gym in Pocatello, Idaho.
"The sweep of Idaho State made for an amazingly successful trip," commented SU assistant coach Jake Moe. "The team is ecstatic with the results of the weekend."
The highlight of the match came from the number two singles contest, Alexandra Farrar (La Quinta, Calif.) outlasted Idaho State's Laura Porras in a two-hour, three-set match that saw numerous match points for both sides. Farrar took the first set 6-3, then Porras the second 4-6. They went to a tiebreaker to decide the match, which Farrar won 13-11 after blasting an ace past Porras for the deciding point.
Elsewhere in singles play, Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) continued her singles winning streak, pushing it to seven with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Marian Tangarife at the fourth singles position. Also riding a singles winning streak is Lindsey Newman (Feeland, Wash.) who won her sixth straight singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rilee Moorhead in number three singles.
The Redhawks and the Bengals played four doubles matches with each match scoring in the team match. Corinne Wurden (Poulsbom, Wash.) and Farrar lead the way for the Redhawks in doubles as they combined to beat Idaho State's Madelaine Ryan and Natalie Clark 8-0 in the fourth doubles position.
In number three doubles, Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) and Newman combined to take down Idaho State's Rachel Ryan and Zamira Vasquez 8-1.
The Redhawks return to action next Friday, Feb. 10 when they take on Portland State in Vancouver, Wash.
