After scoring 50 points during the Elgin Baylor Classic, including a career-high 31 points against Nebraska Omaha, senior Aaron Broussard (Federal Way, Wash.) was named Jesuit Player of the Week by Jesuit Basketball Spotlight and Independent Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Just a week after setting his previous scoring career high with 29 points against nationally-ranked Virginia, Broussard shot 12-of-20 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line in collecting 31 points during Seattle U's 91-72 victory over Nebraska Omaha. He also pulled down 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards, for his first double-double of the season.

The next night, Broussard once again led Seattle U in scoring with 19 points, plus he grabbed eight rebounds and earned two steals. For his efforts over the two games, the senior forward was voted by the coaches and SIDs of the participating teams to the All-Tournament Team.

Broussard currently leads the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game and is second in rebounding with 5.7 rebounds per contest. He is shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 74.1 percent from the free throw line, plus he has earned a team-high 18 steals so far this season. The 35th player in Seattle U history to reach the 1,000-point mark in a career, Broussard is now 23rd on the all-time scoring list with 1,172 points and is closing in on SU Athletic Hall of Famers Ray Brooks (1,176 points) and Charlie Williams (1,181 points).

The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight compiles an honor roll, including a player of the week, each week comprised of the best performances from among the 28 Jesuit schools playing collegiate basketball at all levels. Broussard was named to the Jesuit Honor Roll last week after his performance against Virginia.

This is the second time this season that a Seattle University player has earned Independent Player of the Week honors from College Sports Madness, with Eric Wallace (Winston-Salem, N.C.) previously picking up the honor Nov. 28, 2011.

The Seattle University men's basketball team (3-9) heads to Orem, Utah, to face the Utah Valley Wolverines Saturday, Jan. 7, beginning at 6 p.m. Pacific time, followed by the crosstown contest against the Washington Huskies at Alaska Airlines Arena Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. The Redhawks begin a three-game homestand Friday, Jan. 13, with the rematch against Utah Valley starting at 7:10 p.m. at KeyArena, with home contests against Eastern Washington (Jan. 16) and Utah State (Jan. 19) also on the docket.
