Andy Cunningham, a native of Cameron Park, Calif., signed a National Letter of Intent during the recent signing period to come to Seattle University and join the Redhawk men's swimming program beginning in the 2012-13 academic year.

Cunningham is currently attending Ponderosa High School and also swims with the Sierra Marlins club. He is a senior national qualifier in the 200 backstroke and a junior national qualifier in the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley. His best times in those three events as well as in the 100 butterfly, the 500 freestyle, and the 1000 freestyle would be among the top ten times on the Seattle U all-time list.

"Andy is a very versatile swimmer who will bring a lot to our team. He just made his first Senior National Qualifying time and continues to get better and better each time he swims. He brings a great work ethic, he really fit in well with the team on his visit, and we know he will be a great addition to our team and the Seattle U community," Seattle U head swim coach Craig Nisgor said.

Cunningham will join a program that will remain in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation next season. The Seattle U men's swim team will next compete on back-to-back days against Simon Fraser Friday, Jan. 20, and Saturday, Jan. 21.
