Seattle University sophomore post Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) earned her second consecutive College Sports Madness Independent Player of the Week honors following her combined 31-point and 15-rebound weekend. Sowell helped guide the Redhawks (4-4) to back-to-back wins this past weekend, establishing new career-high records along the way.

"The thing I'm most happy with Kacie is that she has been so consistent for us as a scorer and a rebounder. I think that is the sign of someone really coming into her own, but I still think the best is yet ahead for her. Her hard work and ability to focus each game has been welcomed to this team and I am very proud and happy for her," said head coach Joan Bonvicini.

On Dec. 2, Sowell grabbed down her third double-double of the year, tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds in SU's dominating victory over Long Beach State, 78-49, at home. She was 5-for-9 from the field and also tallied three steals in 20 minutes of work.

Two days later, she scored 19 points, to tie a career-high, in Seattle U's first road win of the season over Boise State, 89-80. Sowell also established a new career-best record from the free throw line, going 11-for-15 in 28 minutes of action.

The second season player has started in all eight games this year, headlining the Redhawk offense with a team-leading 14.1 points per game, including shooting 59 percent from the field. Sowell also is the squad's rebounding leader, averaging 8.1 per game.

Sowell and the Redhawks next host Portland on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 12:30 p.m. in the Connolly Center.
