For the third consecutive week, a member of the Seattle University women's basketball team has been named Independent Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, as senior Talisa Rhea (Juneau, Alaska) picked up the honor as announced by the website Monday.
In Sunday's 69-55 victory over Portland, Rhea contributed to the Redhawks' third straight win in many ways, finishing with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. It was the fourth straight game in which Rhea scored in double figures, and the three steals were the most in a game so far this season.
For the season, Rhea is second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She also leads the Redhawks in assists with 49, averaging 5.4 assists per game, and she is tied for second on the squad with 11 steals. Rhea earns the weekly honor from College Sports Madness after sophomore Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) was named Independent Player of the Week in each of the past two weeks.
"Talisa has been an outstanding leader from the moment she stepped onto our campus," Seattle U head coach Joan Bonvicini said. "She can influence the game as a scorer, a passer or a defender. She is the ultimate team player and winner."
Seattle University (5-4) takes its three-game winning streak into Tuesday's home game against Santa Clara beginning at 7 p.m. in the Connolly Center North Court.
