For the second straight day, Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.) and Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.) posted season-best times representing the Seattle University swim team at the Husky Invitational Sunday at the King County Aquatic Center.
Wertz posted the fastest time among the 69 swimmers that competed in the men's 200 backstroke preliminaries, completing his heat in 1:49.21, over a second ahead of the second-place swimmer and less than two seconds off the school record he set at last year's MPSF Championships. Wertz also competed in the 200 breaststroke, finishing 14th out of 61 entrants with a time of 2:09.99.
In the men's 100 freestyle, Anderson was the fifth-fastest competitor among 155 swimmers in the morning preliminaries with a time of 45.26 seconds, only 7/10ths of a second off the school record he set at the conference meet last season.
Also in the men's 200 backstroke, Nicolas Morrell (Bend, Ore.) posted the 12th-fastest time of the morning session with a mark of 1:54.72, his best of the current season. Melanie Frey (Seattle, Wash.) competed in the women's 100 freestyle, posting a personal season-best time of 56.96 seconds.
The Seattle U swim teams will next compete Jan. 20, 2012, at the Connolly Center against Simon Fraser.
