A CSU Bakersfield's Richard Menjivar 108th minute goal would prove to be the difference maker in an even paced match Saturday at Championship Field, as the Roadrunners handed the Seattle University men's soccer team a heartbreaking 4-3 double overtime loss to conclude the 2011 season.

The game seesawed from the opening kick, as possession and controlled transferred between both sides throughout the extra period contest.

CSU Bakersfield would strike first in the seven-goal match. At the 13:55-minute mark CSUB's Lucas Dall'Orso took a free kick outside the box six yards out. His ball found a way through traffic and ended up being deflected into the goal off a Redhawk defender to give the Roadrunners an early 1-0 advantage.

Bakersfield added quickly to their lead, scoring a second goal in the 17th minute. Ernesto Hinojosa sent a through ball to an oncoming Kory Kindle, who tapped in a shot to the lower left corner from 12 yards out.

Despite CSUB scoring a pair of quick goals, the Redhawks did not let that deter their momentum. Mikey Ramos (Spokane Valley, Wash.) sailed in a shot at the 17:05-minute mark that Roadrunner goalkeeper Eric Shannon saved, but it bounced off his gloves. Senior Scott Greenburg (Seattle, Wash.) followed through on Ramos' deflected shot to score his first career goal two seconds later.

The Redhawk offense continued to pick up their momentum through the first half and at the 34:11-minute mark Seattle U capitalized on a second Shannon deflected save. This time sophomore Renato Bandeira (Sammamish, Wash.) followed through on his own shot to head in the ball to the near post.

After battling back to even the score in the first half, SU took their first lead of the match minutes into the second half. In the 50th minute, Bobby Segal (Portland, Ore.) attempted to send in a shot, but his ball found teammate Marshall Kosaka (Burien, Wash.) open inside the box. Kosaka was able to put a touch on the ball and shoot in the go-ahead goal to the far post.

Ramos nearly made it a two-goal cushion for Seattle U, as he volleyed in a shot that went just high in the 56th minute.

The Roadrunners would even the game before the end of regulation off a Hinojosa penalty kick. Bakersfield's Kindle was fouled in the box and Hinojosa sent in his fourth goal of the year to make it a three-all match at 83:07.

In the first overtime period, CSUB outshot SU 3-1, but all four shots were off target.

In the second overtime period, play was primarily between the 18's, as both defensives made routine stops outside their respective boxes. A Redhawk defensive lapse at the 107:32-minute mark proved costly, as Jesus Sanchez was able to get a through ball to a hustling Menjivar. Menjivar beat the SU backline, successfully scoring in a one-on-one effort with Seattle U goalkeeper Jake Feener (Rocklin, Calif.) to score the game-winner.

In the match, SU outshot CSUB 18-16, including an 8-6 on frame advantage. Both sides were nearly even in corner kicks

The Redhawks conclude the 2011 season with a 2-12-2 overall, 1-9 MPSF record.
