In their final match of the 2011 campaign, the Seattle University women's soccer team battled host Loyola Marymount to a 0-0 double overtime draw to conclude the year. SU's defensive prowess showcased as the Redhawks earned their seventh shutout of the season.

"It was a great team effort to cap the season off. The game was back-and-forth and showed some great effort and tenacity on our part. I am impressed and proud of our team and the season we had," said head coach Julie Woodward.

In the 10th minute, Redhawk forward Megan Daniels (Lake Forest, Calif.) sailed in a shot that was just off target and hit the post. That would prove to be one of the Redhawks best offensive opportunities in the match.

Daniels would go on to tally three shots in the game, with one on frame.

At 32:44, LMU's Tawni Martino's header hit the crossbar off a corner kick feed from Linda Bakker, but the Redhawks were able to clear out the deflected ball before the Lions could take a second chance shot.

The first and second halves were nearly identical, as LMU outshot SU 5-2 in both periods; however both sides were even, 2-2, with shots on frame before the match went into overtime minutes.

In the first overtime period, Kat Prati's (Moorpark, Calif.) shot went wide to get the Redhawk offense going. In the 95th minute, freshman Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) found an opening on frame, but Lion keeper Brittany Jagger was able to make the save.

Prati and Verdoia's shots marked the only offensive activity in the first overtime period, sending the match into a second overtime period.

The contest concluded with the SU defense forcing Loyola Marymount's Martino to send in an off target shot that wide right of the goal with 14 seconds to play.

In the game, LMU outshot SU 11-6, while the Redhawks held a 3-2 on frame advantage. The match saw 21 corner kicks, with Loyola Marymount tallying a 15-6 advantage.

The Redhawks conclude the season with a 12-6-1 overall record. Next season they will compete in the Western Athletic Conference, as Seattle U's official membership begins on July 1, 2012.
