Seattle University head men's basketball coach Cameron Dollar has announced that D'Vonne Pickett, Jr., a former standout at Rainier Beach High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Redhawk program beginning in the 2012-13 academic year.

Pickett is currently a sophomore at Central Arizona College and is ranked second nationally among all junior college point guards by Jerry Mullen Sports Scouting Service. Last season as a freshman, he averaged 18.8 points, 7.6 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game.

At Rainier Beach High School, Pickett was part of the 2007-08 Viking squad that finished 29-1 and won the Washington state 3A championship. He averaged 10.1 points per game in his senior season of 2008-09 as the Vikings went 18-10, earning Third Team All-Metro League honors.

"Two words come to mind when I think of D'Vonne - leader and winner. He makes everyone around him better. We are thrilled that one of the city's favorite sons is returning home," Dollar said.

Pickett will join the Seattle University men's basketball program just as it moves into the Western Athletic Conference next year. This season will open with an exhibition game Saturday, Nov. 12, against Pacific Lutheran beginning at 7 p.m. at KeyArena.
