To celebrate the start of the 2011-12 college basketball season, the Seattle University athletics department, in partnership with several campus organizations, will be sponsoring Redhawk Week Monday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 13.
Throughout the week, the Seattle University bookstore will be offering a 15% discount on all red Seattle U merchandise. Also, for anyone with a Seattle U ID, Mad Pizza will take 25% off the price of any order. Finally, all week members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and RedZone will be on campus looking for students wearing a shirt from another school and giving out vouchers for new Redhawk shirts available at the front desk of the Eisiminger Fitness Center.
Redhawk Week will kick off Monday with the sold-out Courtside Club Luncheon, to be held on campus at Student Center 160. Seattle U men's basketball head coach Cameron Dollar will give his initial impressions of the 2011-12 season. Also appearing as a special guest is Jen Mueller, broadcaster from ROOT Sports. Again, all seats for this event have been filled. Those who walk onto campus will also notice spirit banners popping up in many places, and all Seattle U fans are encouraged to wear red.
Tuesday, Nov. 8, women's basketball head coach Joan Bonvicini, selected players, and members of the Seattle U cheer and dance squads will be making appearances at Cherry Street Market during lunchtime and in the residence halls during the evening hours. Dollar and members of his team will be interacting with members of the campus community in the same way Wednesday, Nov. 9.
The action of Redhawk Week begins Thursday, Nov. 10, when the volleyball team will play its home finale against Portland State starting at 7 p.m. in the Connolly Center North Court. Seniors Megan Augustavo, Jordan Keller, and Cristin Richards will be honored for their contributions to the Seattle U volleyball program. The Redhawks will be looking to avenge a tough five-set loss to the Vikings earlier this season.
Friday, Nov. 11, the women's basketball team opens the regular season against UC Santa Barbara at the Connolly Center North Court, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The Redhawks are coming off a convincing victory over Puget Sound in a Nov. 2 exhibition game and hope to continue that momentum into the regular season. The women's team will also wrap up Redhawk Week with a 2 p.m. contest against UC Davis Sunday, Nov. 13, also at the Connolly Center.
The men's basketball team will play in front of its fans for the first time this season Saturday, Nov. 12, in an exhibition game against Pacific Lutheran starting at 7:10 p.m. at KeyArena at Seattle Center. This is the third straight year the Redhawks face the Lutes in an exhibition contest, and this will be the final preparation for Dollar's squad before the start of the regular season three days later.
The Seattle University athletics department encourages all Redhawk fans to join in the excitement of Redhawk Week by wearing red and attending as many contests as possible. For up-to-date information, visit GoSeattleU.com.
