The Redhawks return seven letterwinners this season, including senior co-captain Elle Kerfoot (Surrey, B.C.), who was named the preseason College Sports Madness Independent Player of the Year and to the All-Independent First Team. Kerfoot, who was named to the Canadian World University Games roster this past summer, was the Redhawks offensive leader last season. She averaged 13.7 points per game and scored in double figures in 24 of SU's 30 games.
Seattle U also welcomes eight newcomers, including senior Talisa Rhea (Juneau, Alaska), who redshirted last season after transferring from Oregon State. Six true freshmen will also vie for minutes, including College Sports Madness' Preseason Independent Freshman of the Year Renee Dillard-Brown (Seattle, Wash.).
SU looks to build upon last season's 8-22 overall record, as they enter their final season competing as a NCAA Division I Independent.
The UPS Loggers, an NCAA Division III affiliate, are coming off an 18-8 overall, 11-5 Northwest Conference 2010-11 season. Puget Sound returns 10 letterwinners, including last year's top offensive performer senior Joceyln Riordon. In 26 contests, Riordon averaged 16.3 points and 4.5 boards per game.
Following their exhibition matchup with the Loggers, Seattle U opens up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11, versus UC Santa Barbara. First tip is slated for 7 p.m. Two days later, the Redhawks will host UC Davis in a 2 p.m. game.
