Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) became the first Seattle U women's tennis player to win the main draw of an invitational singles flight since the tennis program was reestablished in 2008 as play concluded at the EWU Fall Classic Sunday at the Eastern Washington University Tennis Courts.

Wurden defeated teammate Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the finals of the flight four main draw in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). That capped off a weekend in which Wurden and Lucas defeated three players from Gonzaga as well as one from host school Eastern Washington to reach the final match.

In the flight three singles main draw final, Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) lost to Maddy Murray of Montana in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). However, Weissmann took out two players from Gonzaga and one from Montana on her way to the final.

Seattle U also had a chance to win the doubles main draw, but Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) and Lindsey Newman (South Whidbey, Wash.) could not get past the duo of Sophie Vickers and Victoria Lozano, as the twosome representing Idaho won the doubles title with an 8-2 victory. The Redhawks were represented by all four doubles teams in the quarterfinals with victories over duos from Washington State, Gonzaga, Idaho, and Eastern Washington.

The Seattle U women's tennis team will host Pacific Lutheran in a dual match Wednesday, Oct. 5, beginning at 3 p.m. Weather will dictate if the match is played indoors or outdoors.
