Two veterans of the Seattle University men's basketball team have received their second honor of the preseason, being named to the Preseason All-Independent Team by CollegeHoops.net, announced earlier this week by the website.
Senior Aaron Broussard (Federal Way, Wash.) earned a spot on the All-Independent Team as voted on by the coaches and SIDs of the independent schools last year after leading the Redhawks in scoring and rebounding with 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Irvine subregional of the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer after averaging 20.7 points and 8.7 rebounds against Louisiana Tech, UC Irvine, and Navy Nov. 19-21.
Sterling Carter (Seattle, Wash.), entering his sophomore season with Seattle U, was also named to the CollegeHoops.net Preseason All-Independent Team after finishing second on the team in scoring last year with 13.8 points per game. Carter made 85 three-pointers during the 2010-11 season, third-most in a single season in school history, and he scored in double figures in 22 games last year, including 10 of the last 11 contests.
Both players previously earned Preseason First Team All-Independent recognition by another website, College Sports Madness. This will be the final year for Seattle U men's basketball playing as an independent before joining the Western Athletic Conference next season.
The Seattle University men's basketball team will host Pacific Lutheran in an exhibition game Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at KeyArena. The home opener of the regular season is one week later against San Francisco starting at 3 p.m.
