Mark Shkrebtan (Redmond, Wash.), a senior on the Seattle University men's tennis team, has advanced to the semifinals of the men's open singles consolation bracket of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals after winning two matches Sunday.

First, Shkrebtan was able to advance into the quarterfinals after Mark DeCastro of San Francisco was forced to retire due to injury after only three games. In the afternoon, Shkrebtan defeated Roy Brandys of Sacramento State in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) to reach the semifinals.

Shkrebtan is next scheduled to face Scott Sullivan of Gonzaga in the semifinals. A victory would move Shkrebtan to the final of the bracket against Robert Stineman of Stanford.

The Seattle University men's tennis team will compete as an independent in the 2011-12 season before joining the Western Athletic Conference July 1, 2012.
