Embracing the strong Jesuit values of service, the Seattle University women's soccer program hosted their second annual Kicks for Breast Cancer Sunday. The event was an all-around success, as the program raised over $1,500 from combination of outright donations and proceeds from ticket sales, raffles, concessions, a silent auction and merchandise benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Puget Sound.

Prior to kickoff, the Redhawks honored friends and family members who have battled breast cancer, but were unable to be in attendance. During introductions, senior Taylor Fannin (Yakima, Wash.) and the starting 11 honored Capri Fannin, Taylor's mom and a breast cancer survivor with roses.

Throughout the afternoon, representatives from Komen were on site, providing fans with information about early detection and awareness. In addition, representatives from the Special Olympics tabled with information. They also took pledges encouraging people to stop using the term "retarded" or other hurtful words referring to mentally disabled individuals.

The success of the event was capped off with the Redhawks 3-0 shutout victory over Hawaii.
