"I am very proud of Liana for earning this honor. She has worked incredibly hard this off season and it is paying off. She has been a solid contributor this year and has always worked hard both on the field and in the classroom," said head coach Julie Woodward.
Heberer, who redshirted the 2010 season, has returned to action in solid form. She has seen action in 13 games, providing a lift off the bench at outside defender. Heberer has contributed to four Redhawk shutouts this season and got in on the offensive game this past weekend. In the 85th minute, she received Chelsea Jenning's corner kick and shot in SU's final goal from 25 yards out to top off an all-around solid day for the Redhawks, as they went on to shutout Hawaii, 3-0.
In addition to her hard work on the field, Heberer has been an all-around successful student-athlete. She boasts a 3.2 cumulative grade point average as a biology major and plans on pursuing a career working in biological sciences or as a marine biologist.
Heberer and the Redhawks (9-5) hit the road for a pair of matches over the next two weeks beginning in Bakersfield, Calif. SU will face CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Oct. 14, in a 5 p.m. match. After a nine-day break in play, Seattle U will take their longest road trip of the season, as they travel to Austin, Texas to face the Longhorns of UT on Sunday, Oct. 23.
