The Seattle University women's basketball team kicked off the 2011-12 campaign by holding their first official practice of the year Monday. This season the Redhawks return seven letterwinners from last year, including Canadian Development National Team member senior Elle Kerfoot (Surrey, B.C.). The squad will also get a boost from guard Talisa Rhea (Juneau, Alaska) and forward Maggie McCarthy (Burlingame, Calif.), who redshirted last season, and the addition of five true freshmen and a junior transfer.
The Redhawks have put together another exciting slate of games this season and will officially open up action with an exhibition game versus Puget Sound Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. They kick off the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11, versus UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m.
The 2011-12 season will mark SU's final year competing as an NCAA Division I Independent, as the Redhawks become full members of the Western Athletic Conference on July 1, 2012.
