The Seattle University volleyball team continued its week-long trip through Oregon by facing the state school, as the 16th-ranked Ducks earned a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-18, 25-22) Friday night at Matthew Knight Arena.

Sarah Jaeckel (Littleton, Colo.) led the Redhawks with 10 kills, two service aces, and two total blocks. Jacquie Brice (Fullerton, Calif.) dished out 15 assists to go along with four kills and four defensive digs, while Lani Beadle (Seattle, Wash.) led the team with 13 digs.

Oregon (5-1) started the first set by scoring four of the first five points, but consecutive kills by Jaeckel and back-to-back service aces from Allison Farley (Happy Valley, Ore.) pulled Seattle U into a 9-9 tie. The Ducks scored the next five points to pull ahead, 14-9, and then closed out the set with five unanswered points thanks in part to Katherine Fischer, who had two kills and a block assist during that scoring run.

The second set was close early, but a kill from Ariana Williams and a service ace by Kellie Kawasaki helped Oregon take an 8-6 lead. After a Jaeckel kill, the Ducks scored four unanswered points, two of them on kills from Williams, to extend their lead to 18-13. Alaina Bergsma notched back-to-back kills to give Oregon the set victory and a 2-0 match lead.

After the intermission, Oregon went on a 7-2 scoring run early in the third set to take a 10-6 lead, but three Oregon attack errors as well as two kills and a service ace from Jaeckel helped pull the Redhawks into a 13-13 tie. Down by two, Seattle U received kills from Brice, Jordan Keller (Mukilteo, Wash.), and Jaeckel as well as a service ace from Kaytlyn Dill (Bothell, Wash.) to take a 20-18 advantage. After calling timeout, Oregon closed out the set on a 7-2 run, helped by three kills from Bergsma and two from Fischer, to complete the sweep.

"We got better every game and learned a lot tonight. Sarah played outstanding. I believe we are a better team now than we were this morning. If we can take those lessons with us into the next match, then I will feel good about tonight," head coach Shannon Ellis said.

Bergsma led all players with 18 kills, while Fischer notched a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Oregon setter Lauren Plum collected 34 assists and seven digs, and Haley Jacob paced the backline with 15 defensive digs.

Seattle University (1-4) heads to Corvallis, Ore., for the Active Ankle Challenge. The Redhawks will face Loyola Marymount Sunday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. and Cal State Bakersfield later Sunday at 5 p.m., followed by a contest against host school Oregon State Monday, Sept. 5, at 12:30 p.m.
