Weekly Release: No. 13/18 UCLA and CSU Northridge

This Week for the Redhawks: After a nine day break in play, the Seattle University men's soccer team will travel to Southern California to conclude their non-conference schedule. They open weekend action with No. 13/18 UCLA (4-2-1) on Friday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. and return to Seattle after a Sunday, Sept. 25, match at Cal State Northridge (2-3-1). First kick is slated for 11 a.m.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks took the then-No. 23 Huskies of UW to a 0-0 overtime draw on Sept. 11. The tie extended SU's unbeaten streak to three; however on Sept. 14, Gonzaga handed Seattle U a 3-0 loss to conclude their two-game home stand.

On Deck: SU's five-game road swing begins this weekend in Los Angeles and concludes in mid-October. The Redhawks open MPSF play on Oct. 2, at CSU Bakersfield, followed by trips to SJSU and Sacramento State.

Ranked Opponents: No. 13/18 UCLA will mark the third ranked opponent SU will face this season, thus far. They dropped a 3-1 decision to then-No. 9 UCSB, before taking then-No. 23 UW to a scoreless draw.

Ranked Shutout: Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Feener posted his first shutout versus a ranked team on Sept. 11. Feener played all 110 minutes in SU's 0-0 draw versus the then-No. 23 Huskies.

California Dreamin': SU's next five games will be in California, from Sept. 23 through Oct. 9.

The Newbies: The Redhawk roster boasts 14 newcomers, with freshman Travis Heim leading the squad with a pair of goals and an assist.

The Captains: The men's soccer captains for the 2011 season are: Marshall Kosaka, Elliot Richards and Demaci Roussos.

Scouting No. 13/18 UCLA: The No. 13/18 UCLA Bruins (4-2-1) host the Redhawks riding a four-game win streak. In their last outing, they outlasted then-No. 6 UCSB, 3-2, on Sept. 16, before edging San Diego, 1-0, in overtime on Sept. 18.

Chandler Hoffman is averaging a goal per game, with seven goals this season, while Kelyn Rowe has three assists and a pair of goals for seven points.

Goalkeeper Brian Rowe has played in five games, posting a 3-1-1 record, behind a 1.31 goals against average, 19 saves and a shutout. Earl Edwards has played in two games, tallying 189:29 minutes of action. He's 1-1, with four saves and three goals against.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced UCLA: This will be the first meeting between Seattle U and UCLA since the Redhawks reclassified back to NCAA Division I status.

Scouting Cal State Northridge: Cal State Northridge returns home after playing their last three games on the road. The Matadors are 2-3-1 on the season and have not seen action since Sept. 15, when they took Cal State Bakersfield to a 2-2 draw.

Defensively, two different goalkeepers have seen action, with Michael Abalos managing the majority of CSUN's minutes between the pipes. He has a 1.66 goals against average and 26 saves in five games played.

Leading the Matador offense are Yarden Azulay and Edwin Rivas, who both have a pair of goals on the year.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced CSU Northridge: This will be the first meeting in program history between the Redhawks and the Matadors.
