Freshman Alec Goodrie (Springfield, Ore.) led the Redhawks with eight kills, plus she earned three block assists, while Jordan Keller (Mukilteo, Wash.) collected four total blocks to go along with two kills and a service ace. Megan Augustavo (Shoreline, Wash.) earned 14 assists and five digs, and Jacquie Brice (Fullerton, Calif.) contributed 11 assists and five digs.
Fresno State (4-4) scored four unanswered points early in the first set to take a 7-3 lead, and then went on a 5-0 scoring run later in the set to extend the lead to 16-9. The Redhawks took advantage of a couple of Bulldog errors, and a service ace by Sarah Jaeckel (Littleton, Colo.) tied the set at 21-21. After the two teams exchanged the next six points, Maci Murdock and Kristen Sciacca combined for a block, and Korrin Wild followed with a service ace to end the first set.
A kill by Kaytlyn Dill (Bothell, Wash.), a block from Keller and Goodrie, and a service ace by Allison Farley (Happy Valley, Ore.) allowed Seattle U to go ahead in the second set, 10-6. Fresno State scored the next four points to tie the set, and the two teams exchanged points until it was tied at 16-16. Sciacca and Marissa Brand each earned a kill, and Brianna Clarke notched back-to-back kills, followed by another ace from Wild, to give the Bulldogs a 21-16 advantage. Clarke would close out the set with another kill, giving Fresno State a 2-0 match lead heading into intermission.
Murdock earned two kills and a block assist to help Fresno State take a 7-3 lead in the third set. Seattle U came within two at 11-9, but a service ace by Alysia Baker and a block from Murdock and Lauren Albertson helped the Bulldogs extend their lead to 15-9. The two teams basically exchanged points the rest of the way, with Fresno State closing out the set and the match on a kill by Brand.
Brand led all players with 12 kills, plus she earned six digs, while Clarke had eight kills and only one attack error in 10 chances for a .700 hitting percentage. Cecilia Agraz contributed seven kills and seven digs, and the setting duties were split between Christina Lee's 19 assists and Barbara Alcantara's 18 assists. Murdock led the team at the net with six total blocks to go along with four kills.
Seattle University (1-10) will look to get back on the winning track Wednesday, Sept. 14, as the Gonzaga Bulldogs visit the Connolly Center for a 6 p.m. contest. That will be the last regular season home match for the Redhawks until Nov. 4, with only an exhibition match against Trinity Western Sept. 29 within that 50-day span.
