This Week for the Redhawks: The Seattle University men's soccer team (1-1-1) opens the home slate this weekend, beginning with a 1 p.m. match versus cross-town rival No. 23 Washington (2-0-1) on Sunday, Sept. 11. Prior to kickoff, SU will host a 9/11 memorial ceremony. The Redhawks will conclude their season-opening home stand with fellow Jesuit rival Gonzaga (1-2), on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks put together a pair of double overtime outings on the road last week, beginning with a 1-1 draw at UC Davis on Sept. 2. Two days later, SU outlasted Cal Poly, 2-1, behind Travis Heim's game-winner with seven seconds to go.

On Deck: SU will hit the road for a five-game swing in California, opening with UCLA on Sept. 23, on 4 p.m. Two days later, the Redhawks will face CSU Northridge in an 11 a.m. match.

Remembering 9/11: Prior to kickoff versus the Huskies on Sunday, Sept. 11, Seattle U will have a pregame memorial ceremony. 

Look to Heim: Freshman Travis Heim made his first career start a memorable one, scoring his first career goal on Sept. 2, at UC Davis. Two days later, Heim added to his goal tally, scoring the game-winner in double overtime. Heim's second goal of the year came with seven seconds left in the game. He now leads the Redhawk offense with a pair of goals and an assist.

Solid Weekend in California: The Redhawks put together an undefeated weekend in California, going 1-0-1. They took both UC Davis and Cal Poly to double overtime, earning their first win of the season against the Mustangs, 2-1.

Hamer Named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week: A top notch student-athlete, senior defender Brandon Hamer was selected GoSeattleU.com's Featured Student-Athlete of the Week. He boasts a 3.65 cumulative GPA and had a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout the 2010-11 academic year.

Hamer earns the honor after a solid weekend of work in California, where he helped the Redhawks earn their first win of the season. He scored his first goal of the year at Cal Poly on Sept. 4, in SU's 2-1 double overtime victory.

The Captains: The men's soccer captains for the 2011 season are: Marshall Kosaka, Elliot Richards and Demaci Roussos.

Scouting No. 23 Washington: The No. 23 Huskies of Washington currently are undefeated in their first three matches, seeing a pair of victories to open the year over Gonzaga and Loyola Chicago. They are coming off a draw versus then-No. 22 Florida Gulf Coast, 1-1.

Leading the UW offense this season is Brent Richards, who's scored three goals in three games played. Jacob Hustedt has a pair of assists on the year, as well.

Defensively, Spencer Richey has taken over keeper duties in all three games. He's tallied a 0.30 goals against average, six saves and a pair of shutouts. He's allowed only one goal this season.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Washington: The Redhawks fell 2-0 to Washington in their last meeting on Sept. 24, 2010 at Husky Soccer Stadium. SU is looking for their first victory over UW since reclassifying back to DI.

Scouting Gonzaga: Gonzaga travels west riding a 1-2 overall record. The Bulldogs dropped their first two matches of the season to UW and then-No. 14 UC Irvine, before earning a 1-0 overtime victory over Long Island on Sept. 4.

Nick Hamer and Nathanael Pachco lead the GU offense with a goal apiece. Three different Zags have tacked on assists, thus far.

Between the pipes, Ryan Caballero posts a 1.53 goals against average, 25 saves and a shutout. He's allowed five goals this season.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Gonzaga: The Redhawks were edged 2-1 by Gonzaga in their last meeting on Sept. 10, 2010 in Seattle. Kyle Peterman got SU on the board in the fourth minute, but GU managed to take the lead heading into halftime and preserved it for the final half.
