This Week for the Redhawks: After a thrilling weekend of action at the Husky NIKE Invitational, the Redhawks head to Portland, Ore. to face a pair of squads at the Viking Soccer Classic. SU (4-2) will open the weekend with Cal Poly (3-3) on Friday, Sept. 9, in a 3 p.m. match. Two days later, Seattle U will face host-Portland State (4-2) in a 2 p.m. game.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks made history this past weekend upsetting the then-No. 8 team in the nation - Portland, 2-0, on Sept. 2. Two days later, SU concluded the Husky NIKE Invitational dropping a 3-1 decision to host-UW. Goalkeeper Madison Goverde was named the tournament Defensive MVP.

On Deck: The Redhawks head to their third consecutive tournament next, this time in Las Vegas, Nev. The farthest trip of the season, thus far, SU will square off with host-UNLV (Sept. 16) and San Diego State (Sept. 18) at the UNLV NIKE Invitational.

Viking Soccer Classic: Seattle U is one of four teams participating in this weekend's Portland State-hosted Viking Soccer Classic. Participating in the two-game tournament is: Boise State, Cal Poly, Portland State and Seattle U.

One For the Books!: SU's 2-0 shutout victory over then-No. 8 Portland was the biggest win in Redhawk women's soccer program history. It also marked the highest win an SU team has earned since reclassifying back to Division I.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles: SU currently is amidst a 10-game road swing. This weekend's tournament will mark the Redhawks seventh and eighth consecutive games away from Championship Field.

Road Warriors: The Redhawks will only play five games at Championship Field this season.

The Woodward Tally: Head coach Julie Woodward currently boasts 198 career victories at Seattle University. She is 198-74-25 all-time and is the winningest coach in SU women's soccer history.

Goverde Makes the Save: Senior goalkeeper Madison Goverde has helped guide SU to three shutout victories this season, including a six-save performance versus then-No. 8 Portland at the Husky NIKE Invitational. At the tournament, she went on to tally 17 saves and was named Defensive MVP.

She was also named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Player of the Week and to the Our Game Magazine Players to Watch national teams of the week. She is the first SU women's soccer player to ever be named to any national team of the week.

Scoring First: When scoring first the Redhawks are 4-0 on the year.

Verdoia Leads Offense: Freshman Stephanie Verdoia is the only newcomer to start all six games this season. The midfielder has played nearly every minute of action this season and leads the Redhawks with two goals. She scored her first career goal in her first collegiate match and added a second goal to her resume versus then-No. 8 Portland on Sept. 2.

The Captains: Senior goalkeeper Madison Goverde and senior defender Renee Vandermause will captain the 2011 Redhawk squad.

Final Year of Independence: 2011 will mark SU's final season playing as an NCAA DI Independent. On July 1, 2012 Seattle U will officially join the Western Athletic Conference as full members.

Scouting Cal Poly: The Redhawks will open tournament action with the Cal Poly Mustangs (3-3). CP travels to the Pacific Northwest following their 3-1 loss to Saint Mary's on Sept. 4. This season the Mustangs have seen wins over: Cincinatti, CSU Bakersfield and San Jose State.

Leading the Cal Poly offense is Sara Lancaster, who in six games has scored three goals for a team-leading six points. Cici Kobinski follows, with a pair of assists and a goal.

Defensively, Brooke Gauvin has played every minute in goal, tallying a 1.78 goals against average, 26 saves and a shutout on the year. She's allowed 11 goals this season.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Cal Poly: In a wild ending, the Redhawks and Mustangs were unable to finish their match last season in San Luis Obispo, Calif. on Oct. 17, 2010. Behind a Kara Kuttler fifth minute goal, SU led heading into halftime; however inclement weather forced the cancellation of the remainder of the match.

Scouting Portland State: After losing their first two matches, Portland State is riding a four-game win streak, posting back-to-back 2-0 victories over Nevada (Sept. 2) and Detroit (Sept. 4) last weekend.

Goalkeeper Melissa Ferguson has taken over in goal, starting the last five games and seeing action in six contests. She's tallied a 0.22 goals against average, 20 saves and three shutouts. This season she has only given up one goal.

Melissa Trammell headlines PSU's offensive efforts with three goals and an assist in six games. This season seven different Vikings have gotten the ball into the back of the net.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Portland State: In their last meeting, Seattle U defeated Portland State, 2-1. Second half goals from Ava Ames and Kara Kuttler guided SU to their sixth consecutive win.
