The Seattle U men's track and field team was one of 90 Division I institutions to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition after posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.13. The Redhawks were one of four squads from the Great West Conference to receive the academic honor, joining North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah Valley.
The women's track and field team posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.36 to become one of 164 squads to receive All-Academic recognition. Seattle U was one of five teams representing the Great West Conference on the list, joining NJIT, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah Valley.
"I'm happy to see our men's and women's teams earn All-Academic honors. Education has been and continues to be a prominent focus in our program, so it's great to see others are taking notice of the high-level work our team is doing in the classroom," head coach Trisha Steidl said.
Earlier this summer, seven males and 12 females from the track and field squad were named to the Great West Conference Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference team. For teams to receive the USTFCCCA All-Academic award, they needed to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
The Seattle University men's and women's track and field teams, along with the men's and women's cross country and women's tennis teams, will participate in the Great West Conference in 2011-12 before joining the Western Athletic Conference July 1, 2012.
