Manchester United, a member of the Premier League in Great Britain and one of the most famous soccer clubs in the world, practiced at Seattle University's Championship Field Thursday, July 14, in preparation for its upcoming match against Seattle Sounders FC.
Members of the club, including Wayne Rooney, considered one of the top soccer players in the world, came back to Seattle U Tuesday, July 19, for a clinic benefiting Special Olympians. Players from the Seattle University men's and women's soccer teams as well as coaches representing Seattle Sounders FC helped guide the youngsters through soccer drills and games.
After flying cross country from Boston following its July 13 match against the New England Revolution, Manchester United held a training session on the natural-grass field for about an hour-and-a-half. The session was described by Nick Coppack of www.manutd.com as being "rigorous."
Championship Field was chosen as a training site by Manchester United because the natural-grass pitch closely matches the temporary field laid down at CenturyLink Field for the July 20 contest between Man U and the Sounders.
