The Seattle University women's basketball coaching staff headed to Glacier Peak High School for its first-ever satellite camp last weekend, providing 15 total hours of instruction to 37 young girls.

The girls attending the camp represented several area high schools, including Bremerton High School, Central Kitsap High School, Glacier Peak High School, Lynnwood High School, and Todd Beamer High School. The camp began during the afternoon Friday, June 17, and continued all day Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19.

"On behalf of our players and parents, the Glacier Peak coaches would like to thank the Seattle U coaches for a wonderful weekend of hoops," Jerry Hawkins, assistant girl's basketball coach at Glacier Peak High School, said. "The whole staff did a great job of both selecting a good balance of activities and working with individual players. They made it fun, but the kids were still exposed to great learning opportunities."

Seattle University head women's basketball coach Joan Bonvicini, assistant coaches Joy Hollingsworth and Kristen O'Neill, and new video coordinator Karlie Burris were on hand to provide their expertise to the campers. Bonvicini imparted the same wisdom she has employed during her 31-year coaching career at Seattle U, Arizona, and Long Beach State, while Hollingsworth (Arizona), O'Neill (Washington), and Burris (Portland) used their experiences as Division I players to guide the participants through the weekend.

"The camp went great! We were very impressed with how hard the campers worked. They learned a lot, and it was very competitive. We hope to do more satellite camps in other parts of the greater Seattle area," Bonvicini said.

The Seattle U women's basketball program will host its summer camp for girls ages 8-17 August 1-4 at the Connolly Center. For more information, go to http://www.ussportscamps.com/basketball/nike/nike-girls-basketball-camp-seattle-university/.
