Head Seattle University women’s basketball coach Joan Bonvicini announced the signing of Jasmine Lemon (Renton, Wash.) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Redhawks for the 2011-12 season.
“Jasmine is a smart, quick and heady player,” said Bonvicini of the 5-3 point guard. “She is the kind of kid who is going to make the people around her better. She’s a winner and an excellent student. Bringing in another local player shows the talent and the quality of players here in Seattle, and how we are bridging the gap between Seattle U and the Seattle community.”
A well rounded student-athlete boasting a 3.75 cumulative grade point average at nearby Kennedy Catholic High School, Lemon helped guide the Lancers to a 102-13 record throughout her four-year career. KCHS reached the playoffs four consecutive seasons, winning conference titles in her sophomore and junior seasons, and the state championship as a sophomore. Lemon was an All-Seamount selection four times. In 2010, she was a Seattle Times All-Regional Selection, the Comcast 3A Championship Player of the Game and led the Seamount League in assists. The point guard earned numerous accolades at Kennedy, including being the 2011 MVP of the MLK Tournament. She concluded her varsity career with 865 points, 300 assists, 185 rebounds and 156 steals.
Lemon, who plans on majoring in computer science, was a member of the National Honor Society, earned KCHS’s Paul Roberson Scholar-Athlete Award and a Math Achievement Award. She also played for the Y.E.A. club team, guiding the squad to multiple championships and top finishes.
She joins fellow newcomers: Monique Abbs (Phoenix, Ariz.), Brenda Adhiambo (Mombasa, Kenya), Renee Dillard-Brown (Seattle, Wash.), Kim Flournoy (San Diego, Calif.) and Jessi Williamson (Tacoma, Wash.) for the upcoming season.
