Seattle University senior Conor Spink (Eagle River, Alaska), a left-handed pitcher on the Redhawk baseball team, has been voted Capital One Second Team Academic All-District VIII in the University Division, announced Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Spink has become one of the team's most reliable relief pitchers this season, leading Seattle U with 23 appearances, all of them out of the bullpen. He has a 3-2 record with a 2.33 earned run average and one save. In 38 2/3 innings of work, he has allowed just 26 hits and 17 runs, 10 of them earned, with 12 walks and a team-high 36 strikeouts.

The lefty earned his first victory of the season by pitching 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief in Seattle U's 4-3 win over Cal State Northridge Feb. 20. He helped the Redhawks clinch the athletic department's first victory over crosstown rival Washington since the beginning of the reclassification process in 2008 with 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief March 8. Spink struck out six Nevada batters in 3 1/3 innings of work during Seattle U's 8-7 win over the Wolf Pack April 8.

In the classroom, Spink has been a solid student since arriving at Seattle University from Lower Columbia Community College, currently maintaining a 3.64 grade point average as a political science major. He was named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com Feb. 22 after his performance during the team's opening series at Cal State Northridge.
