The Seattle University softball team prevented a weekend sweep by Idaho State with an eight inning 11-10 victory to conclude the season series. The Redhawks dropped Sunday's morning game, 10-1.

After a forgettable loss to open up the day, where SU's lone run came in the third inning off a Jessica Amador (Whittier, Cali.) solo home run, Seattle U ignited their play to close out the series.

In game two, the Redhawks jumped out early with a 4-0 lead. As per conference rules, the visiting team is the designated home team on day two of the weekend series.

In bottom of the second with bases loaded, Sarah Petosa (Auburn, Wash.) singled to left field to bring home SU's first run of the game. Two batters later, Katie Gould (Medford,Ore.) unloaded a two RBI single to left field and Allegra Wilde (Kennewick, Wash.) made it a four-run inning with her single to right field.

Idaho State responded in the third with five runs to take a 5-4 lead.

Seattle U maintained their offensive game, as they evened the game in the bottom half of the inning. Hannah Klein (Camarillo, Calif.) singled up the middle to score the tying run.

Despite SU's efforts, the Bengals were able to put together another multi-run inning in the top of the fourth, tacking on four runs. They made it a 10-5 game in the top of the fifth with a solo run.

After three scoreless SU innings, they put together their best come-from-behind effort of the season. Kate Zender (Enumclaw, Wash.) came in to pinch hit and lead off the seventh inning. She slammed a solo home run over the center field fence to get things going for the Redhawks. Klein followed by hitting a two-run home run over the left field fence. Three batters later, Gould hit an RBI single to left field and Wilde evened the score with her RBI single to left field to send the game into extra frames.

The Redhawks maintained their offensive momentum in the eighth, with Karina Smyth (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) hitting the game-winning RBI single to left field.

"Kate came in to pitch hit and delivered a towering home run," said head coach Dan Powers. "Brianna (Guerrero) followed up with a double and Hannah had a homer off the top of the left field fence. Katie and Allegra were there again with clutch RBI singles and Karina completed this great comeback win. Today was a complete team effort!"

Richelle Ashburn (Post Falls, Idaho) pitched 3.0 relief innings to earn the victory. In 13 batters faced, she allowed only three runs, no runs and had a pair of strikeouts.

SU will conclude the 2011 season with a weekend series at Northern Colorado from May 7-8.
