The
Seattle University women’s soccer team will host the Inaugural Seattle Unified
Special Olympics event on Friday, Apr. 29. SU will host a pregame clinic and a
halftime game for the Special Olympic athletes at the Redhawk women’s game
versus the University of Washington slated for 5 p.m. at Championship Field.
The event will kick off with a clinic at 4 p.m. for the Special Olympic athletes from the Seattle Public Schools Unified Sports soccer teams. Coaches and players from both the Seattle U and Washington women’s soccer teams will run the pregame clinic.
The Redhawk men’s soccer players will play in a halftime game versus the Special Olympic athletes to culminate the day.
Through partnering with Unified Sports and the Special Olympics, Seattle U hopes to raise awareness about the Special Olympics and Best Buddies International program. In addition, SU would like to raise consciousness about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word “retard(ed)” and encourage people to eliminate it from their vocabulary.
