For the second straight week, Seattle University could not figure out Washington starting pitcher Jeff Brigham, and the Washington offense supported him with three big innings as the Huskies defeated the Redhawks, 7-1, Tuesday evening at Husky Ballpark.

Brigham pitched seven innings, allowing only three hits and two walks, as he earned his third victory of the season. This performance came one week after he pitched the first 4 1/3 innings of last week's shutout victory over Seattle U at Bannerwood Park.

Washington (11-23) jumped on the board in the second inning when Ryan Wiggins reached on a two-out single and came around to score on a double by Chase Anselment. Joe Meggs hit a grounder to the left side of the infield, but Nick Latta's (Tacoma, Wash.) throw was off line, allowing Anselment to come around and score the second run of the inning.

In the third inning, Seattle U starter Seafth Howe (Seattle, Wash.) took a liner off the bat of Jacob Lamb off his left arm. While still making the play for the out, Howe was forced to leave the game after pitching 2 2/3 innings, but the injury is not thought to be serious at this time.

The Huskies extended their lead in the fourth inning as the bottom of the order once again came through, starting with a single by Wiggins. A double by Meggs scored Wiggins, and Ty Afenir followed with his own double to drive in Meggs. Afenir would advance to third on a wild pitch and score on a squeeze bunt by pinch hitter Cody Stephens.

Washington would put another crooked number on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, as Anselment drew a leadoff walk and Meggs followed with his second double in as many at bats. Afenir drove in both runners with a single to right field to extend the Husky advantage to 7-0.

Seattle U broke through in the eighth inning off Washington reliever Zach Wright when Cullen Hendrickson (Auburn, Wash.) doubled down the right field line and Bryndon Ecklund (Elma, Wash.) followed with a double down the left field line to drive in Hendrickson. After Wright stranded two Redhawk runners in scoring position in the eighth, Adam Cimber pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the contest.

All of Washington's production came from hitters six through nine, as Wiggins, Anselment, Meggs, and Afenir combined to go 9-for-14 with seven runs scored and five runs driven in. No Seattle U player earned more than one hit, but Doug Kincaid (Portland, Ore.) was able to extend his hitting streak to a team season-high eight games with a single in the fourth inning.

Seattle University (14-16) will fly to Texas Wednesday in preparation for a weekend series at Dallas Baptist, beginning Thursday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. local time. Live audio with Dan Giuliani for all three games will be available on GoSeattleU.com.
