Former Seattle University women’s basketball player Breanna Salley (East Bethel, Minn.) has been invited to the WNBA Seattle Storm’s preseason training camp. Salley, who played at Seattle U from 2008-09, is the first-ever Redhawk to be invited to a WNBA camp.

“I feel very thankful and blessed for the opportunity that the Storm has given to me,” said Salley. “I’m excited to see where this will take me. I am going to continue to work hard and make steps towards accomplishing my goal of playing professionally.”

In one active season with the Redhawks, Salley helped guide SU to a 20-9 record. She led the team with 17.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Salley also made her mark in the Seattle U all-time career and single season record books, including her 32 blocked shots in a single season, tying her for No. 10 all-time.

“I am so excited for her,” said Seattle U head coach Joan Bonvicini. “This was her dream. For her to maintain her focus and competitiveness without being able to play in an actual game the past two seasons says a lot about her character.”

“Each step she has made is toward achieving her goals. She’s a great player and I am confident that she will do a good job,” concluded Bonvicini.

Salley, who is set to graduate from Seattle U in June, will report to camp in May.
