Thanks to a top-ten performance by junior Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) and improved play in the second round by the entire team, the Seattle University women's golf team finished Monday in ninth place in the 23-team Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at the Ocotillo Golf Resort.

McCleary posted scores of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1) to finish the first day in a tie for eighth place with a cumulative score of 147 (+3), six strokes behind tournament leader Britney Yada of Portland State. McCleary is tied for third among all golfers with six birdies and has played both the par-four and par-five holes at even par.

Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) improved from a first round 80 (+8) to a second round 76 (+4) to move up into a tie for 38th place with a 36-hole score of 156 (+12). After an opening-round 82 (+10), Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) took five fewer shots to go around the course in the second round, as a 77 (+5) put her in a tie for 55th place after two rounds with a cumulative score of 159 (+15). Cook and Quinn were two of four golfers to earn an eagle during the afternoon round.

Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) posted scores of 81 (+9) and 79 (+7) to finish the day in a tie for 60th place with a two-round total of 160 (+16). Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) ended the day in a tie for 112th place after finishing with a 36-hole total of 174 (+30) thanks to scores of 88 (+16) and 86 (+14).

As a team, Seattle University was in a tie for 15th place after a first-round score of 317 (+29), but the Redhawks moved up to ninth place after combining for a second-round score of 305 (+17), finishing the day with a 36-hole total of 622 (+46). Portland State has taken control of the team tournament with a two-round total of 581 (+5), 17 strokes ahead of second-place New Mexico State.

Seattle University will look to finish the tournament on a strong note as the third and final round is scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. local time Tuesday, April 5.
