Head Seattle University men’s soccer coach Brad Agoos announced the addition of five student-athletes for the upcoming 2011 season. Joining the Redhawks are: Brent Campbell (Seattle, Wash.), Tanner Gleason (Atwater, Calif.), Michael Granados (Vancouver, Wash.), Travis Heim (Ridgefield, Wash.) and Chris Miller (Washougal, Wash.).
“We are extremely excited about this class,” said Agoos. “Every player that is coming in has something to contribute immediately and these signings, along with the other players coming in, will continue to give us the strength and the depth to compete with any team in the country.”
Brent Campbell ∙ 6-5 ∙ Forward/Midfielder
Seattle, Wash./Ballard High School ∙ Seattle United
A three-year varsity starter at Ballard High School, Brent Campbell adds height to the Seattle U lineup. He helped guide BHS to a pair of playoff appearances, and in 2010 he was an All-KingCo selection and the Beavers’ team MVP. Campbell has played club soccer for Seattle United for the past five years. The P1 squad was rated No. 1 in the state of Washington in 2009-10.
Coach Agoos on Campbell: “Brent will be one of our taller guys next year at 6-5, but what is amazing is how quick he is laterally for such a big guy. His instincts and technique around the goal will make him dangerous for us. It is tremendous for our program to have a local Seattle player joining the team.”
Tanner Gleason ∙ 6-2 ∙ Midfielder
Atwater, Calif./Buhach Colony High School ∙ Juventus Burligame
A talented all-around athlete, midfielder Tanner Gleason brings athleticism to the Redhawk midfield. A three-year letterwinner at Buhach Colony High School, Gleason helped guide the squad to the CIF quarterfinals in 2010, while being named to the all-conference second team. Gleason boasts a strong club soccer playing resume. He has played for the Juventus Burlingame for three years, serving as their team captain during his time with the squad. He previously played for Cal Odyssey, where he helped guide the squad to the US Club National Championship in 2006, in addition to other tournament championships. Gleason was a member of the California North State ODP team and named to the Region IV Regional Team in 2006.
Coach Agoos on Gleason: “One of the great things about Tanner is that he can play and be good in multiple positions. He can play most defensive or midfield spots, which will make him a guy who will find a way to get on the field.”
Michael Granados ∙ 5-8 ∙ Midfielder/Forward
Vancouver, Wash./Union High School ∙ OSSA Spark
A talented student-athlete and three-year letterwinner, Michael Granados helped advance Union High School to the playoffs three consecutive seasons. The midfielder/forward was UHS’ team MVP, in addition to earning all-league honors throughout his varsity career. Granados also earned his school’s Scholar-Athlete Award and was recognized with the WIAA Distinguished Scholastic Award twice. He has played club soccer for the past two years with OSSA Spark. With the squad he helped guide them to the state championship in 2009, where he scored the game-winning goal. Granados is also his club team’s captain. He was also a member of the Region IV ODP team.
Coach Agoos on Granados: “Michael is one of those special attacking players who can not only go forward and be dangerous, but also has a great sense of being able to keep the ball and play quickly. He is a technical guy, but also has a lot of bite to him which is kind of rare in really attack-minded players.”
Travis Heim ∙ 6-2 ∙ Forward
Ridgefield, Wash./Ridgefield High School ∙ Columbia Premier Soccer
A strong striker, Travis Heim will add speed to the Redhawk frontline. The three-year letterwinner at Ridgefield High school earned All-GHSL First Team honors in 2008 and 2010, as well as being named the GHSL 2A All-League Offensive Player of the Year in 2010. Heim has played club soccer for Columbia Premier Soccer since 2003. He helped guide the team to the Washington State quarterfinals in 2005 and the semifinals from 2006-09. In 2010, the team won the Washington State championship, and he earned the Timber for Life Award and his team’s Player of the Year award.
Coach Agoos on Heim: “Travis has all the abilities to be an outstanding college soccer player. He is tall, strong, fast, left-footed and his work ethic always makes those around him better.”
The Seattle U men’s soccer team will look for immediate contributions from the class of 2011, as they vie for the MPSF Conference crown and a chance to compete in the NCAA Division I Tournament next season.
Chris Miller ∙ 5-10 ∙ Midfielder
Washougal, Wash./Camas High School ∙ OSSA
A four-year varsity starter for the Papermakers of Camas High School, Chris Miller is an experienced player who will add depth to the Seattle U midfield. He helped guide CHS to three consecutive top-three finishes at the state tournament, including a championship in 2008. He was an all-league second team selection in 2009 and earned first team honors in 2010. Over his career at Camas, he scored 18 goals and made 12 assists. Miller also played club soccer for Washington Premier FC Academy from 2008-10 and currently plays for OSSA. With Washington Premier, the squad won the WPFC State Championship in 2008. Miller is ranked No. 16 in the Pacific Northwest Region on Topdrawersoccer.com.
Coach Agoos on Miller: “Chris’ ability to go at players and be dangerous is what makes him truly special. He also is a very smart player and is able to think quickly on the field which will give him a huge edge to be able to adapt quickly to the next level.”
The Seattle U men’s soccer team will look for immediate contributions from the class of 2015, as they vie for the MPSF Conference crown and a chance to compete in the NCAA Division I Tournament next season. The Redhawks plan on adding additional student-athletes to the incoming class.
