The Seattle University women's basketball team capped off the 2010-11 season with a dominating 87-66 win over Longwood University in their final game of the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament. Junior Elle Kerfoot (Surrey, B.C.) represented the Redhawks on the all-tournament team.

"I thought this was a great way to end the season," said head coach Joan Bonvicini. "It was a great team victory and the thing I am most proud of is the team played really hard. This was our third game in three days and I thought our seniors played really well to conclude their careers."

Salena Dickerson (Federal Way, Wash.) opened up action with a jumper, but Longwood took control early by responding with three consecutive three-pointers to take a 9-2 lead at 18:16.

At 16:38, Ashley Ward (Irvine, Calif.) would be sent to the line and get the Redhawks back on the board with a pair of free throws.

Dickerson would follow with a feed from Tatiana Heck (Lynnwood, Wash.), to dish in a three from the corner and bring SU within a possession, 9-7.

Heck and Dickerson would give the Redhawks an 11-9 advantage, both receiving consecutive passes from Kerfoot under the basket. She would have a hand in Seattle U's six straight points, putting up a pair of baskets from the stripe to add to the Redhawks lead.

For the 14th consecutive game the co-captain scored in double figures. She finished with a career-high 25 points and was the lone SU player selected to the all-tournament team. It was the second all-tournament team Kerfoot was selected to this season.

"Elle is just a baller. She really has been consistent getting her game to another level," commented Bonvicini.

SU continued to push the pace of play, as Daidra Brown (Seattle, Wash.) would steal the ball on the Lancers ensuing possession and take it to the hole. She was fouled on the play and made good on her three-point opportunity.

Brown would finish with nine points, five boards, four steals and three assists.

Dickerson followed by making six consecutive points to make it a 21-9 game and give SU a double figure lead.

After scoring 19 straight, LU's Brittanni Billups added a jumper to break the Lancers back on to the board at 10:30.

The Redhawk defense had held Longwood scoreless for about eight minutes minutes, but Billups basket would ignite a 7-2 LU run to make it a 23-16 contest.

The Lancers would find some offensive momentum midway through the half and at 6:12 Longwood would come within five, 25-20.

Kerfoot scored five straight for SU and Ward made it a 7-0 Redhawk run working inside the five-minute mark to maintain their point cushion.

As Longwood worked to continue to close in on SU's lead, Ward sailed in back-to-back three's for making it a 38-29 game at 3:16.

LU would answer with a trey of their own and Brittany Jones would get up a basket under the hole to make it a four-point contest, 38-34.

After holding as high as a 12-point advantage, the Redhawks went into the break holding a 44-39 lead.

In the second half, Julee Christianson (Missoula, Mont.) kicked off action with a three-pointer just to the right of the top of the key.

The senior would have a pair of treys in her final start as a collegiate player. Christianson also grabbed five boards in 21 minutes of work.

Dickerson went on to score six straight, including an open basket from downtown, to reestablish a double figure Redhawk advantage, 53-39.

She would go on to score 22 points, as SU's second leading scorer. She also had two rebounds, an assist and a block.

The Lancers were held without a second half basket until 16:09, when Krystal Garrison put up a jumper.

Unlike the first half, Seattle U would maintain their tempo. They prevented Longwood from breaking out with a serious scoring run, as Kerfoot put up consecutive three's to make it a 61-43 game.

SU took a 20-point lead, as Brown grabbed down a defensive board and pushed the ball up the court. Driving down the lane she dished it to Carley Butcher (Pitt Meadows, B.C.) making it a 63-43 game at 12:43.

Longwood worked to battle and close in on SU's lead, but strong play on both the offensive and defensive ends helped the Redhawks maintain control of the game.

Sylvia Shephard (Alta Loma, Calif.) reestablished Seattle U's 20-point lead, 71-51, off a quick dish from the game's leader Kerfoot.

Seattle U would teeter around a 20-point lead for the remainder of the game to conclude the season with a third place finish at the tournament.

In the game, Heck had one of her best outings of the season. She tallied six points, seven defensive boards and four assists in 38 minutes of action.

The Redhawks conclude the year with an 8-22 overall record.
