Despite struggling through the second and final round Friday, the Seattle University women's golf team finished sixth at the Cal Poly Lamkin Grip Challenge, held at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) and Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) once again posted identical scores, this time each shooting 85 (+12) in the second round to finish the tournament in a tie for 17th place with a cumulative score of 162 (+16). McCleary earned the tournament's only eagle, posting a three on the par-5 18th hole, while Pearson was tied for third among all golfers with six birdies during the 36 holes.

Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) posted Seattle U's best score of the second round with an 81 (+8) to finish in a tie for 21st place at 163 (+17). Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) shot an 84 in the final round to also finish in a tie for 21st place at 163 (+17), and Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) posted a final-round 90 (+17) for a 36-hole total of 174 (+28), good enough for 35th place.

As a team, Seattle University combined for a second-round total of 335 (+43) to finish the two-day tournament in sixth place with a final score of 650 (+66), ahead of Cal State San Marcos, Eastern Washington, and Cal State Bakersfield. Cal Poly came from behind to win the team title with a two-round score of 624 (+40), seven strokes of Sacramento State. Samantha Saffold of Sacramento State and Alex Phillips, a member of Cal Poly's "B" team, tied for medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 153 (+7).

Seattle University will next play in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic Monday and Tuesday, April 4-5, to be held at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.
