With three top ten performances, the Seattle University women's golf team is currently in second place after one round of the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Challenge Thursday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) and Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) each shot 77 (+4) to finish the first day in a tie for third place, five strokes behind leader Samantha Saffold of Sacramento State, but just one stroke behind second-place Ellese Dias, also from Sacramento State. Pearson earned the second-most birdies during the round with four, while McCleary is tied for eighth among all golfers with 10 pars during her round.

Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.), who picked up three birdies over the first 18 holes, posted a first-round score of 79 (+6) to currently place in a tie for eighth place. Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) posted an opening-round score of 82 (+9) to finish the day in a tie for 21st place, and Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) is in a tie for 24th place with a first-round score of 84 (+11).

As a team, Seattle University combined for a first-round score of 315 (+23), seven strokes behind tournament leader Sacramento State. Due to forecasted weather conditions, the tournament was changed from a three-round match-play bracket to a two-round stroke-play format.

The tournament will conclude Friday with an 18-hole round, with Seattle University teeing off from the 10th hole starting at 9:30 a.m.
