Point guard Elle Kerfoot (Surrey, B.C.) was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, after leading the Redhawk offense throughout the season. She finished the year averaging a team-leading 13.7 points per game, scoring in double figures in Seattle U’s final 14 games. She also earned Seattle U’s Star Board Award. Each player earns a star on a board in the locker room for reaching specific goals, including number of rebounds, assists, steals, taking charges in games and doing extra shooting. Kerfoot has made her mark in the SU record books in various single season and career records, including holding the No. 2 all-time individual single season three-point field goals made record, with 67.
Sophomore transfer Daidra Brown (Seattle, Wash.) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, behind a solid first season with the Redhawks. Brown, who saw action in all 30 games and started 20, led the team in steals with 96. She averaged 3.2 steals per game, breaking Seattle U’s all-time single season individual steal record. Brown was also nationally ranked throughout the season in steals per game, maintaining her stance in the top-10 for a majority of the year and concluding the season ranked No. 7 in the nation.
Freshman Ashley Ward (Irvine, Calif.), who successfully transitioned into a collegiate player and landed in the starting lineup to conclude the season, was named Most Improved. Ward played in all 30 games, starting 11. She was a top performer, finishing with 6.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Julee Christianson (Missoula, Mont.) capped off her senior season by being named the squad’s top academic performer. The forward earned the Academic Excellence Award, behind her 3.637 cumulative grade point average as a journalism major. Christianson saw action in all 26 games, starting 14. She was a constant force on the floor for SU providing veteran leadership.
Rounding out the evening’s award recipients was senior Breanna Salley (East Bethel, Minn.), who was named the team’s Most Inspirational and earned the Coaches Award. Salley, who did not play in the last two seasons, has been a constant sideline supporter of her teammates. Her dedication to the team was unfazed by not actively playing.
The Redhawks concluded the season with an 8-22 overall record, playing their second full NCAA Division I schedule.
