Seattle University women’s basketball player Carley Butcher (Pitt Meadows, B.C.) has been selected Featured Student-Athlete of the Week after capping off a solid sophomore campaign. This is the first time the Redhawk forward has received the honor.
“Carley is a model student-athlete and a joy to coach,” said head coach Joan Bonvicini. “She is an outstanding representative of Seattle University.”
After suffering back-to-back season ending injuries, Butcher completed her first full season in a Redhawk uniform during the 2010-11 season. The Canadian saw action in all 30 games, starting 12 of them. She scored 87 points, grabbed 51 rebounds, tallied 19 steals, dished seven assists and made a pair of blocks. Butcher also tallied a career-high three steals twice, scored a season-high 10 points twice and made a career-high four free throws at Saint Mary’s on Dec. 21, 2010 this past season.
In addition to developing as a player on the court, Butcher has successfully balanced the rigors of college classes and basketball. As a strategic communication major, she boasts a 3.564 cumulative grade point average. In the Fall 2010 Quarter, Butcher had a 3.667 GPA.
The Seattle U women’s hoops team concluded the 2010-11 season with an 8-22 record, in their second full season playing an NCAA Division I schedule.
