The Seattle University softball team will return home to the Emerald City to participate in the Husky Softball Classic hosted by the University of Washington. The Redhawks will play from Friday, Mar. 11 to Sunday, Mar. 13, and take on Portland State, Oregon State, USC Upstate and No. 5 Washington.

On Deck: The Redhawks will open the home half of the 2011 season with a four-game series with the University of British Columbia from Saturday, Mar. 26 to Sunday, Mar. 27.

Last Time Out: Seattle U (1-15) was unable to breakaway with a victory at the Boise State Tournament this past weekend in Boise, Idaho. The Redhawks opened up action with Southern Utah on Mar. 5. After going down 9-0 to the Thunderbirds, SU battled back to even the score in the fourth inning. Despite their best efforts, SUU managed to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth and earn a 12-10 victory over Seattle U.

The Redhawks dropped a pair of game to both Boise State and Southern Utah at the tournament.

Wilde’s Way: Sophomore Allegra Wilde went 6-for-11 this past weekend at the Boise State Tournament. She tallied three runs and a pair of doubles, in addition to four walks. Wilde was the team’s offensive leader in the outing and is the team’s current top performer at the plate. She’s hitting .348 in 16 consecutive starts. She has 16 hits, six balls, five runs, four RBIs, a pair of doubles and a triple.

Scouting Oregon State: Oregon State (7-7) is coming off a 2-3 performance at the CSUF De Marini Invitational. After opening the season with four straight wins, they have gone 3-7 in their last 10 outings.

Defensively, Marina Demore leads the three player Beaver pitching staff. She is 5-3 in nine appearances. Demore has thrown two complete games and a shutout. In 43.1 innings pitched, she’s given up 31 hits and thrown 37 strikeouts.

At the plate, Nikki Chandler leads the Beavers with a .346 batting average. She is 9-for-26 at the plate and has six RBIs. Four players are batting above .300 for OSU.

Scouting Portland State: The Vikings of Portland State travel north riding an 11-7 record. They have played all of their 18 games on the road thus far and are coming off a five game stint at the Wildcat Invitational at the University of Arizona. PSU went 3-2 at the tournament and are coming off a 5-2 eight inning win over Utah State on Mar. 6.

Leading the Viking offense is Lacey Holm, who is 20-for-46 at the plate and posts a .435 batting average. Holm is one of four Portland State players hitting over .300.

In the circle, Nicole Latham leads the team with a 1.40 ERA and 6-4 record. She’s made 12 appearances, pitched seven complete games and a pair of shutouts. In 65.0 innings, she’s allowed 53 hits and thrown 33 strikeouts. Anna Bertrand has seen action on the rubber in 11 games and pitched 55.1 innings. She posts a 5-3 record and has thrown 66 strikeouts, while allowing 52 hits.

Scouting USC Upstate: USC Upstate travels out west riding a perfect 24-0 record, seeing 16 home games already this season. The Spartan offense has outscored opponents 160 to 16 runs and nine players are hitting above .300, with four sporting batting averages above .400. Janna Lewis leads Upstate’s offense with a .481 batting average. She is 26-for-54, with 16 runs and 11 RBIs.

Defensively, the Spartans have been perfect. Morgan Childers leads their four player rotations with a 0.44 ERA and a 17-0 record. She has 12 complete games and eight shutouts in 96.1 innings pitched. She’s allowed 39 hits and thrown 194 strikeouts.

Scouting No. 5 Washington: The Redhawks take on their second ranked team in the No. 5 Washington Huskies. UW also enters this weekend’s action behind a perfect record of 16-0. The Huskies are led by Niki Williams who is 23-for-43 and posts a .535 batting average. Williams is one of eight UW players hitting over.300 this season.

Each of the five Washington pitchers have earned two or more wins this season, with Kaitlin Ingelsby leading the team with an 8-0 record in 11 appearances. She’s pitched in 40.0 innings, allowing 25 hits and throwing 37 strikeouts.
