The Seattle University softball team held the early lead before Southern Utah came back for an 8-7 extra-inning victory over the Redhawks, and then Boise State defeated Seattle U, 8-0, as action concluded Sunday at the Boise State SpringHill Suites Invitational at the Mountain Cove Softball Facility.

In its first game of the day, Seattle U scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second inning to build a 6-2 advantage before Southern Utah started its comeback. The Thunderbirds scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull into a 7-7 tie and force extra innings, and then were able to score once in the extra frame while preventing any Redhawks to score in order to clinch the victory.

Seattle U collected 13 hits in the game, led by Sarah Petosa (Auburn, Wash.), who went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Brianna Guerrero (Buena Park, Calif.), Allegra Wilde (Kennewick, Wash.), Jessica Ulrich (Lewiston, Idaho), and Hannah Klein (Camarillo, Calif.) each finished with two hits apiece, with Wilde scoring twice and Ulrich collecting two RBI.

In the second game, Boise State held Seattle U to four hits, but the Redhawks did draw six walks against the Bronco pitchers. However, Seattle U could not drive anybody home, stranding 11 runners on base, while Boise State used four home runs to accumulate its run total.

Seattle University (1-15) will play close to home next weekend, competing in the Husky Softball Classic at the University of Washington. The Redhawks will face Oregon State, Portland State, Washington, and USC Upstate during the tournament March 11-13.
