Seattle University Men?s Tennis Splits Saturday Matches

After losing a close match to nationally-ranked NAIA power Lewis-Clark State, 5-2, the Seattle University men's tennis team rebounded to earn a 6-1 victory over Montana State-Billings Saturday at the Anderson Tennis Center.

Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a solid day for Seattle University, winning both singles matches he participated in as well as his doubles set against Montana State-Billings. He defeated Benjamin Robert of Lewis-Clark State (6-4, 7-6 (7-5)) and Del Landicho of Montana State-Billings (6-0, 6-3), plus he teamed with Eric Chalmers (Phoenix, Ariz.) for an 8-5 win over Landicho and Brad Knutson of the Yellowjackets.

Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) also picked up singles victories in both matches Saturday, first defeating Nicolas Tweedie of Lewis-Clark State (6-0, 6-4) before taking care of Montana State-Billings' Knutson (6-1, 6-1). Besides his doubles victory, Chalmers also won in singles against Montana State-Billings, defeating Geoff Fehr in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).

Seattle U earned the doubles point against Montana State-Billings thanks in part to David Kovas (South Bend, Ind.) and Jordan Prince (Hansville, Wash.) teaming up to defeat Navin Marimuthu and Kavindu Gamage, 8-3. Both seniors picked up singles victories as well, with Kovas defeating Marimuthu in straight sets (7-6 (7-1), 6-2) and Prince earning a three-set win over Gamage (6-3, 5-7, 6-3).

Seattle University (2-7) concludes the weekend road trip with a match against Montana State Sunday, Feb. 27, at 9 a.m. local time.
