Low offensive productivity and run support dropped the Seattle University softball team in their final games of the UCSB Gaucho Classic I Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks opened the day resuming action with Wichita State. After their game had been postponed due to darkness the day prior tied 2-2, the Shockers handed Seattle U a 6-2 loss. SU concluded their season opening weekend with a five inning 10-0 loss to UC Santa Barbara.

Seattle U 2, Wichita State 6

After a pair of scoreless innings to open the game, Wichita State would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Down 2-0, with two outs and a runner on first, Kelli Demianew (Pendleton, Ore.)hit her first career triple down the right field line to bring home Jessica Ulrich (Lewiston, Idaho) to give the Redhawks their first run of the game.

In the top of the fifth, Sarah Petosa (Auburn, Wash.) led off with a single to third base. She would be advanced to third on a Shocker fielding error. Natalie Leyland (Richland, Wash.) sent Petosa home with a ground out to third base to even the game 2-2.

The game would be postponed due to darkness in the middle of the fifth inning.

After resuming play Sunday morning, it was Wichita State who opened up action scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. They added an additional run in the sixth, which proved to be too much of a run deficit for the Redhawks to rebound from, as SU fell 6-2 to the Shockers.

Seattle U 0, UC Santa Barbara 10 (5 innings)

In their final contest of the Gaucho Classic, the Seattle U offense could not find their rhythm as they fell 10-0 in five innings to the tournament host UC Santa Barbara.

UCSB put together a seven run second inning and the Redhawks were unable to respond at the plate during their offensive opportunities. The Gauchos, who added three additional runs in the final two innings of play, tallied 17 hits in the game to SU's three.

The Redhawks will look to get on track at the ASU Littlewood Classic. Seattle U will play five games, opening their weekend in Tempe, Ariz. with Iowa and Arizona State on Friday, Feb. 18.
