The Seattle University baseball team successfully mixed community service and fun Friday, Feb. 4, raising money for the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation with the second annual Flex-Off at the Connolly Center North Court.
The event raised $1,380 for the organization that pairs athletic teams with young children diagnosed with brain tumors. The night was highlighted by an appearance of four-year-old Adrian Smith, the boy that has been "adopted" by the Seattle University baseball team though the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
Sophomore pitcher Blaine Jones took the Flex-Off championship, defeating 2010 winner Cullen Hendrickson as well as the other members of the baseball team. The winners of each round of the competition were determined by crowd reaction as well as the opinions of three judges.
The Seattle University baseball team will begin competing on the baseball field next Friday, Feb. 18, in the start of a four-game series at Cal State Northridge. The Redhawks' first home series will take place against Notre Dame, with the Friday, Feb. 25 game being held at Everett Memorial Stadium.
