At the end of this season, I will have played in 116 games wearing a Seattle U jersey, with over 50 of them at the Connolly Center. I have been across the country and traveled thousands of miles. I’ve always wished I had kept track exactly how far we have gone. I constantly think I should figure it out, as I’ve been to the Hawaiian Islands, Puerto Rico, Texas, Indiana and so many different places along the way.
What is craziest about all of it is how fast it went by. I remember asking to walk onto the team and trying out at a summer open gym three years ago. I remember coming to Seattle not knowing a soul. (I vaguely knew Tatiana after her team SOMEHOW beat mine in the Spokane Hoopfest championship. I still get mad every time I see her in that championship t-shirt).
I was just a little fish in a big pond, and wasn’t sure if I’d make it in the big city or at a program transitioning to Division I.
Then suddenly – poof! It’s Senior Night and I’m trying to figure out where the time went. Although I’ve ran so many sprints it would make your head spin and I never want to eat another pasta pre-game meal again in my life, I’m very thankful for the opportunities I have had.
It is strange to think that in the end basketball is just a game and it's not how many points you averaged or playing time you got, but what you learned along the way. It all seemed so stressful at the time, but, hey, school assignments got done, a set of line only took 32 seconds and it all doesn’t seem so tough. Now here I am almost done and trying to figure out what the heck I’m supposed to do next!
So thank you all for your support. Tatiana, Salena, Breanna and I know we have been a part of a monumental team that has helped build the foundation for many successful years to come. Although the transition years aren’t easy, we know we’ve made an impact and we wish our teammates the best of luck next year (although I don’t know how they’re possibly going to make it without us!). They should all get gold stars for being wonderful teammates. Keep supporting them because we’re making moves!
Go Redhawks!!
