Seattle University men’s soccer player Troy Bratten (Gresham, Ore.) was selected as GoSeattleU.com’s Featured Student-Athlete of the Week for his work both in the classroom and on the field. This is the first time the Redhawk midfielder has been recognized.
“Troy has improved tremendously since he started at Seattle U last season,” said head men’s soccer coach Brad Agoos. “Earning this honor really shows his dedication to his school work. He is a great model and representative of the Seattle U athletics community.”
During the 2010 campaign, Bratten saw action in 15 games and made five starts. Versus Sacramento State on Oct. 10, he served up the game-winning assist to Nico De la Cruz in the 90th minute to help guide the Redhawks to a 1-0 shutout victory over the reigning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Tournament Champions.
Sophomore Bratten has successfully made the transition into a Division I student-athlete, balancing both academics and athletics. During the Fall Quarter, he earned a 3.06 grade point average. The biology major currently boasts a 3.204 cumulative grade point average and was most recently named to the MPSF All-Academic Team for his accomplishments in the classroom.
Bratten and the Redhawks are currently prepping for the start of their spring season. Seattle U will host their first spring contest on Saturday, Apr. 9, when the crosstown Huskies of the University of Washington head to Championship Field for a 2 p.m. match.
