Junior Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) has been selected this week’s Great West Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week after his performance at the UW Indoor Preview last week, the conference announced Wednesday.
On Saturday, Stanfield set a new Seattle U record in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.92 seconds. He also won the 200 meter dash in 22.21.
“Zach wants to be the best at what he does,” said head coach Trisha Steidl. “He’s been working hard and it has already paid off in the first meet of the season. This is a great start for him and I’m excited to see what times he can put down as the season progresses.”
Other nominees included Kelvin White from Chicago State, Johnathan Staples from Houston Baptist, Brandon Quesenberry from North Dakota, Bill Lane from South Dakota, and Aaron Best from Utah Valley.
The Redhawks are in their second year of being part of the Great West Conference for cross country and track and field.
Seattle University will next see indoor track and field action at the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor on Jan. 28-29.
