The Cowgirls opened on a 9-0 run, finding success from both beyond the arc and inside the lane early, until Julee Christianson (Missoula, Mont.) sent in a trey from the top of the key two-and-a-half minutes in to get the Redhawks on the board. It was the senior forward's second start in as many games.
Salena Dickerson (Federal Way, Wash.) would add a second trio to make it a five-point contest, 11-6, at 16:27.
SU's following baskets would come intermittently between series of UW points, but the Redhawks continued to find success from beyond the arc to keep them in the game.
They would go on to score eight three-pointers in the contest.
After going down by double figures in the first five-plus minutes of action, SU would make it a 21-15 contest at 12:34 off a Daidra Brown (Seattle, Wash.) layin.
With just shy of nine to play, Christianson would sink in her second three-pointer to make it an eight-point game, 26-18; however the Redhawks were unable to make defensive stops on the Cowgirls' ensuing drives, allowing UW to keep possession of the ball for nearly three minutes and take advantage of second chance opportunities.
Despite coming out flat and struggling to create consistent scoring drives, the Redhawks continually worked to get in the game. Each time Wyoming would establish a double digit advantage, Seattle U would work to rally back and make it as close as an eight-point game multiple times.
The Cowgirls would go into the break with a 35-25 advantage, which Elle Kerfoot (Surrey, B.C.) would cut down seconds into the final half off a second chance three-pointer.
The Kerfoot - Carley Butcher (Pitt Meadows, B.C.) connection worked to make it a 41-37 game less than four minutes into the game, combining for 12 points.
"I thought the second half we came out really strong and we were executing our offense," said head coach Joan Bonvicini. "We told Elle to really start looking for her jumper and it was going to open us up, and we had some really good defensive stops."
Kerfoot led Seattle U's offensive with 11 points, including scoring three three-pointers, and making five assists.
While Seattle U worked to earn their first lead of the game, defensive miscues allowed Wyoming to reestablish a double figure lead heading inside the 12-minute mark, 51-40.
Behind three consecutive baskets from behind the arc, Wyoming would continue on their offensive run and make it a 63-44 contest heading inside six minutes.
Butcher would bring the Redhawks within 20 at 3:09, 68-48, but the Cowgirls would continue to dictate the game pace to conclude the game.
Sophomore Butcher would go on to score eight points in the game, all of which came in the second half.
"Wyoming is a very good team. They are smart , they are heady and they played to their strengths," commented Bonvicini. "For us, this is our third game in five days, which was tough, [but] I thought we really battled."
After playing four consecutive games on the road in three different time zones, the Redhawks will return to the comforts of home at the Connolly Center to host Harvard on Saturday, Jan. 22, in a 4 p.m. game.
