Five Seattle University men's soccer players were named to the 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team for boasting above a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, it was announced today by the league.

"I am very proud of these guys," said head coach Brad Agoos. "They embody everything we look for, not only in a soccer player, but a student-athlete."

Junior Brandon Hamer (Carmichael, Calif.) led the Redhawks with a 3.582 cumulative GPA. The SU defender had a stellar Fall Quarter, where he not only started and played in 17 games, but headlined the team's academic success with a 4.0 GPA. The computer science major was also named to three all-tournament teams this past season. This was the second consecutive season Hamer was named to the all-academic team.

Following Hamer, was the Redhawks' leading scorer Kyle Peterman (Boise, Idaho), who earns the conference academic honor for the second consecutive season. The junior forward/midfielder, excelled during the fall term posting a 3.533 GPA. A computer science major, Peterman has a 3.278 cumulative GPA. In 2010, he scored three goals and was named to the Seattle University All-Tournament Team.

Junior civil engineering major Marshall Kosaka (Burien, Wash.) was named to the all-academic team for the first time in his career. During the 2010 campaign, he scored a pair of goals and had an assist in 18 games, while boasting a 3.205 cumulative GPA. During the fall term, the midfielder had a 3.275 GPA.

Rounding out the Redhawks' academic honorees were sophomores Ryan Blair (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Troy Bratten (Gresham, Ore.), the youngest players to be selected from Seattle U. Blair boasts a 3.293 cumulative grade point average as a civil engineering major. This season he saw action in 16 games, while starting seven on the Redhawk backline.

Fellow second season player, midfielder Bratten holds a 3.204 cumulative GPA. During the Fall Quarter, the biology major posted a 3.060 GPA, in addition to making an assist in 15 games played.

To be selected to the MPSF All-Academic Team, student-athletes must hold a 3.00 cumulative grade point or higher and played in at least 50 percent of the institution's games played. First year student-athletes or transfers are not eligible.
